I have a ReportCaster job that creates a PDF document which gets emailed to a user. The user would like the date in the filename, example:

PDFdoc_06062006.pdf

Easy task if your writing the document out to disk, but how about if it's in an email from ReportCaster. I can't use an amer veriable because it doesn't get resolved in ReportCaster. The document comes back as PDFdoc_&DATE.pdf
Any ideas out there?

Thanks in advance,
Carol

Hi Carol

You would think that that would be an obvious feature.

We have a process that runs every night and updates the value of DISTLIST in the BOTSCHED table in the Caster Repository. We simply stick today's date in the value. Works perfectly, and as far as I know is the only way to accomplish this.

Hi Prarie,

I guess I should have specified where I'm trying to do this. In the ReportCaster job, under tasks, there's a box for

Save Report As: _________________

At that point a DEFINE or amper variable is not understood. I don't believe we're in FOCUS at that point.

Thank you!
Carol

Hi jodye,

Thank you for posting. I have one question,
how do you get the value of DISTLIST into the
prompt box on the ReportCaster screen:

SAVE Report As:

???? Red Face ????
Thanks again!
Carol

Hi Carol

I am not sure what you mean. We are modifying the value of Distlist manually in Botsched so we don't care about the prompt box. Are you saying that you modified the field and the new value does not show in the prompt box when you open the task via the normal interface? Does it use the new value when you run it?

Hi jodye,

Thank you for your help. We found the table and field that needs to be updated to accomplish this. I was hoping to do it without a nightly job, but this approach will work.

Appreciate it!

Carol
