I'm diving headfirst into PowerPoint formatted reports and, as expected, I'm having trouble.

I have a Document Composer report in PDF format. I used the GUI to change the format to Power Point. The report does not get created - I get an error.

I try running one of the individual, hand-coded reports (that are referenced in the Document Composer report) - I get an error, but it opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader, not in MS Power Point, even though PDF is not mentioned anywhere in the code.

This particular fex generates two SVG graphs and then positions the images on a page. Please tell me that Power Point format can handle this.

WebFOCUS v7.7.05. Microsoft Power Point 2007.

It seems that in Document Composer, one cannot simply change the output format from PDF to PPT because while PDF can read graph images created in SVG format, PPT cannot.

Hi Francis,

I've verified with the product division that what you've stated in your second post is correct.

Regards,

Kathryn

So is it only SVG or do other formats fail in PPT as well?

Graph image formats is only one of the several issues I have.

The GUI tools are marketed as easy to use and allow you to change the output format by simple point-and-click. What isn't explicitly mentioned is that a pile of rework must be done to make sure the reports work in the newly selected format - and there's no way to switch back to the previous format. So, you have to make copies of the programs - set one to PDF and develop the reports, set the other to PPT and develop the reports... I don't think that's very intuitive.

It is very unfortunate that the GUI allows you to change formats but the underlying report and styling most likely will not work.
