I have a fex that is creating a .csv file using ON TABLE HOLD AS filename FORMAT COMT on a server. When I run it from DevStudio the output file has quotes around all the fields. When the same fex is run in ReportCaster, there are no quotes around any fields. Also when the .csv file with quotes is opened in excel, any columns with quotes that have all numbers are dropping leading zeros.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Denise

I put the LET DOC=COMT and changed my hold file to DOC. That solved one of the problems. The double quotes are now appearing in my .csv file out of ReportCaster. But I still have the issue that when excel opens the file, the column with part numbers that have leading zeros suppresed even though there are quotes around it. I know the column can be formatted to have the leading zeros, but the users are not wanting to do that - of course!! Do you know if there is a setting in excel that will make .csv files with quotes be treated as a text field? Or is there a different type of WebFocus output file that I can use to get this same result?

Thanks
Denise

Denise,

If you will do a search on 'Leading Zero's using the Find Function on this forum...you'll find lot's of examples. Also if you will go into your profile and go to the Signature field..and put in your WebFocus Version....it would help with answering questions.
Good Luck.

I checked out the leading zero comments and tried a some. I tried putting a leading single quote - that worked to keep the leading zeros, but that leaves the field an incorrect value in the .csv file. I tried putting the leading quote on the field then removing it - no leading zeros in excel. I can't convert the field to a numeric as it is a part number and a lot of the parts actually do have alpha characters in them. I think at this point it is an excel issue and not a WebFocus issue as stated in other posts and the solution resides in excel. I'll check with some of our excel experts to see if they know how to handle this. By the way I had already set up my profile - we are on windows platform version 7.1.6.

Thank you for your assistance.

Denise,

You are correct in identifying the problem as being down to Microshaft and their incessant attempts to decide what is best for the user. I am sure that I have mentioned this in previous posts. Mind you that's one of the problems with having the "general" format!

As far as your profile goes, yes, you have updated it, but not the signature text box as Prarie suggested. That is the only data that gets placed on to any of your posts.
