I have a master file from which has multi path relations between segments
SEGMENT=EMPLOYEE
SEGMENT=TRAINING, PARENT=EMPLOYEE
SEGMENT=COURSES, PARENT=TRAINING
SEGMENT=BENIFITS, PARENT=EMPLOYEE
SEGMENT=APPRAISALS, PARENT=EMPLOYEE

When I issue a TABLE request on the above master file, I make use of RECORDLIMIT (To get the first N rows)

TABLE FILE EMPLOYEE
PRINT EMPLOYEE.FIRSTNAME
EMPLOYEE.LASTNAME
TRAINING.DURATION
COURSE.COURSENAME
BENIFITS.BONUS
APPRAISALS.RATING
WHERE RECORDLIMIT EQ 1000
END

When I turn on the trace and see the Query generated by this request, the query looks perfectly fine except it does not have FIRST 1000 Clause, which I understand is a feature of READLIMIT key word and not RECORDLIMIT key word.

But my problem is, even though that query from the console results in around 20k rows in the database, my report output only shows 300-500 records.

Can any one help with this.

Thanks
Madhavi

How many records are actually in your employee file?
is it possible that you have only 3-400 records in total?
change your RECORDLIMIT to 10
run it
see what happens

Susannah,

Thanks for your reply.
The problem with my master file is that I did not use SEGTYPE="U" for the child segments.

Without that, RECORDLIMIT is being translated to the total number of rows read from each one of the tables.

As I had 4 segments in the master file, the total number of records fetched are 1000 together from all tables.

But as per the relationships, I expect 1000 employee records.

And, in multidimentional master files having SEGTYPE='S0' is not going to make much sense in the output data any way.

So, this resolved my problem.

Thanks
Madhavi
