We have several reports set to open in Excel using the EXL2K format. These reports have worked great over the years, but we recently started upgrading computers to Windows 7 running Office 2010. When a user on these new Windows 7/Excel 2010 machine runs one of our excel reports they are prompted to log in to the server where WebFOCUS server is installed.

When I try to log in to the server, it does not accept my credentials...

I am not sure if this is a Windows 7 problem, an Excel 2010 problem, or a combination of the two... Unfortuantely, I do not have any machines where I can test Windows 7 with Excel 2007 or Windows XP with Excel 2010.

Has anyone encountered this situation? Is there a work around? I've search Focal point, and didn't find anything like this, but I might be looking for the wrong problem.

Any help is appreciated.

We have the same issue. The only work around we have found is to click cancel on the login window. After that Excel's dialog box confirming to open WFSevlet.xls is typically hidden behind other windows. Once you click OK the report opens within Excel.

We are also on Dev Studio 7.6.10, Windows 7, Office 2010.

Thanks for the reply. I will give this a try... Do you know if this is a support issue we can submit to IBI, or is this a Windows/Office security related bug/issue?

We are having IBI come on site to assist with an upgrade in October, so maybe we can have them take a look then...

I've heard of a potential workaround that *might* work - in Windows 7, change the compatibility mode of Excel (and/or PowerPoint) to 'Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)'.

That worked for me. Thanks Francis!

For those who don't know how to do this (I had to ask as well) here's the steps...

Right-click on the Excel.exe file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14, select Properties, Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:”, then select "Windows Server 2003 (Service Pack 1)"

For my Windows 7 computer I set my compatibilty to Windows 7 and that worked also.
