HOLD FORMAT DOUBT??

hi friends ,

Thank you for your resolutions.

In my code , I have 3 hold files h1 ,h2 , h3. ..

Each hold file contains data which is fetched using different filter conditions .. Finally at the end of the report ..I have printed the output of the three hold files using

-HTMLFORM BEGIN
<HTML>
<TABLE>
</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>
!IBI.FIL.H1;
</TD></TR>
</TABLE>
<TABLE>
</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>
!IBI.FIL.H2;
</TD></TR>
</TABLE>
<TABLE>
</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>
!IBI.FIL.H3;
</TD></TR>
</TABLE>
</HTML>
-HTMLFORM END

And i am getting the correct output in HTML Format..

But my export to EXL2K and PDF is not working..

If i add the statement

ON TABLE HOLD AS H1 FORMAT &WFFMT.(<HTML,HTML>,<PDF,PDF>,<Excel 2000,EXL2K>Wink.Select type of display output.

in my fex code so that the user can dynamically select the output format..

The EXL2K and PDF format export is not working..

Am i missing something??

Thank you for your advice..

Arvind,

Think about what -HTMLFORM is actually doing and then realise that if you include a hold file using !IBI.FIL.filename; in the method that you use here, you are only embedding it direct into HTML. To give you a clue, Excel and PDF are not HTML formats that can be used within instream HTML.

If you want to push an Excel or PDF file into an HTML page then make sure you use an appropriate container or method to enable it to be displayed.

Arvind,

For what reason are you locking down your output statement to HTML?

if its because you can't display the reports independently on the same screen try doing this

TABLE FILE HOLD1
PRINT *
ON TABLE SET STYLE
(ADD STYLING IN HERE)
END

TABLE FILE HOLD2
PRINT *
ON TABLE SET STYLE
(ADD STYLING IN HERE)
END

TABLE FILE HOLD3
PRINT *
ON TABLE SET STYLE
(ADD STYLING IN HERE)
END

This will allow you to show the three reports separately on one HTML page and it should let you send these contents to a PDF, not sure how it works with excel but the key is to get it displayed how you want in HTML without using HTML commands but using WEBFocus and CSS code

If you still want to put all 3 reports together and give your users the option of choosing the output format, then you will have to look into doing a compound-type report that can handle all three formats.

You might also look into the MacGyver Technique and do all 3 reports together in one table request.

hi ginny,

I tried Mcgvyer Technique for putting all the three reports together..But i was not able to achieve it. Maybe my coding was wrong..

But as suggested by nubi ..If i write 3 separate Table file Requests for 3 hold files and give three separate &WFFMT for 3 hold files. dynamic output format statements..

ON TABLE HOLD FORMAT &WFFMT.(,,,,).Select type of display output.

Then also it is not working...

Thank you..

Are you prompting the user for the output or using a parameter screen to submit the program?

You can use compound with multiple output types. You style each report separately and you don't need the HTMLFORM.

Thanks PAT for the reply ,

I am using EXCEL and PDF icons in the report . When user clicks on it , the report gets exported to the format accordingly.

Have used Onclick functions in HTML code and passed the parameter to the FEX . ...

Yes i have done it ..I have set compound = open clause , and i have added OPEN/CLOSE in the PCHOLD Format accordingly..

Styled each FEX in different output format.

I may be having a senior moment, but the only thing I can think of is to treat the icons like a drill down and rerun the report with your pchold in that format.
