Hello,

i'm very new here, and was wondering if someone could help me out wiht a little issue i'm having.

I have a database field which is p8, and it contains # of minutes.

I need to convert those minutes into hours and minutes, but because it's a packed number i keep running into problems.

Please advise. Smiler

Thanks Smiler

Zu,
if you translate it to Integer, what happens?
DEFINE FILE whatever
MINUTES/I8=originalfield;
END

i change it to int, and then try to do IMOD on it... to get the remainder (minutes) when i devide by 60... but i get some mumba jumbo...
am i using the function wrong? i feel like it's a little typo that i can't see. Frowner

TOT_MIN_WRK/I8 = IMOD(MINUTES, 60, TOT_MIN_WRK);

as the output i get:
minutes:26
tot_min_wrk:26

...? Frowner

well, hmm.
whats the input value?
if the input value is 26, then the mod 60 of 26 would be... 26.
so it looks good to me, what am i missing?

im sorry, bad example.

if i have input of 78, the IMOD also gives me 78, where it should be 18, right?

basically, no matter what the input it, i get the same number back

Zu,
-SET &NEW = IMOD ( 78 , 60 , 'I5');
-TYPE &NEW
DEFINE FILE CAR
NEWSALES/I6= IMOD (SALES , 60, 'I6');
END

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT SALES NEWSALES BY COUNTRY BY CAR

both work fine for me.
what version are you in?
