Acc to me major weakness of webFOCUS is that it can't interperate errors easily.Its not user friendly.

I think the major weakness is the handling of graphs. Not an exhaustive list of graph types and things like tool tip etc are not that great.

A BIG Plus is that you can parameterize virtually everything. This allows you to incorporate virtually anything you would like to do. One thing that I have do very recently is incorporate FLASH guages into my html pages, using AJAX and WebFOCUS ability to return the answerset as an XML document. I have also incorp. FLASH tool tips, Very Slick.

This could be a very long discussion and involves a lot of subjectivity as to what a person would consider a "PRO" versus a "CON". The following would be my subjective opinion on the PROs and CONs.

PRO:
--- Runs on any platform
--- Can access any data source
--- Can output any format (HTML, PDF, XLS, XML, CSV, etc.)
--- Can create many different types of reports (Columnar, Graph, Labels, Financial, Dashboard, etc.)
--- It can do just about anything due to a strong reporting language
--- Robust scheduling report execution and distribution.
--- It can integrate very well with practically anything.
--- It works great as both a self-service report generator and a Managed Reporting Environment.
--- Integration with geographical and visualization tools.
--- Reliable and stable software. Reliable and stable software. Reliable and stable software. Have I said it enough times?
--- Easy to install software.


CON:
--- GUI tools compared to other products. WF is getting better in recent releases and soon to be released 7.6
(This is a very subjective. Because WF offers so much power, the GUI needs to accommodate the capabilities of the whole backend language, not just a report layout tool like other products. The GUI goes beyond a report painter and is actually an application development tool with so much more. This can be categorized as a PRO rather than a CON. However, just comparing the report painting capabilities, WF still isn't the greatest but it is getting better.)
--- Not all the bells and whistles are available for each output format. For example, TOC needs improving for PDF output.
--- Managed Reporting Environment controls need to be improved such as the ability to place password rules on accounts (min of 8 char, expire date, etc.)
--- Reporting Language keyword consistency. Not all keywords work the same or at all across all output formats. This makes sense in many respects (right and bottom margin mean nothing to HTML) but knowing which keywords do what for each output format is a task.

i agree with Mickey, you can see the 'development trail' in the style sheet keywords ... its hard to standardize the lexicon when html was 'new' and wf was 'new'...and pdf is yet another company's format, chasing another moving target.

i need some hgelp from your side, currently iam implemented the Default Gauge In my HTML Pages.
now iam looking for change of My Gauge.

Please give me the process how can i call the FLASH iamge into my HTML page and how can i parameterise the Gauge.

Please send me your sample fex with FLASH gauge and sample HTML Page by using CAR

i need third Gauge in fourth row of Gauges(from Left to right).

The Flash guages That I use are not part of the WebFOCUS Suite. They are a 3rd parties product.
The default guage that comes with WebFOCUS is not a FLASH object. To Refresh the default guage you must rerun the WebFOCUS Request that created the Graph/Guage. Sorry if I miss lead you.
