Hi,

Is there a way to create a synonym for ORACLE tables and automatically pull the oracle column description into the master file description?

Thanks,
Nam

You can do that from the web console for the reporting server, Data Adapters pulldown, right click on connection and choose "Create Synonym".

The url is http://your_web_server:8121 if the default port was used.

You can also do this from Developer Studio if you are more than a Basic User.

And, according to the manual:
quote:
When you generate a synonym for an Oracle table, the adapter maps each:
❏ Oracle table comment from the Oracle data dictionary to a Remark attribute in the
synonym’s Master File.
❏ Oracle column comment from the Oracle data dictionary to a Description attribute in
the synonym’s Master File.

Hope this helps ...

Thanks a lot for your response!

So that means when I create the synonym, the description in the master file should get automatically populated from the oracle column comment if there is one.

Thanks GamP and Ginny!
