Hi guys, got a couple of questions..
Is there a method of enabling compression of FOCUS and XFOCUS format databases?

Also, what kind of performance do you guys get when using ON TABLE SAVE/ON TABLE HOLD?

On this particular system the performance is only about 1MByte per second to local disk, which is slower than my old DSL internet connection Smiler

What might we do to speed up the I/O performance of TABLE HOLD/TABLE SAVE?

Whats the context of the hold or save ?

HOLD without a format will store numerics in binary.
FOCUS and XFOCUS do the same but depending on the structure can store a single instance of each BY field.

SAVE writes out just text, and should be the biggest.

You could also save back to a db and not write out hold files, depending on your setup.

Waz...

Hello jashwood,

You can call a compression program after generating the HOLD file, if that helps you. Read more here:

How to Issue a Compression Program Command from a Focexec.

Let me know if this helps you at all.

Thanks,
