We're trying to setup a cluster joins for ODS in WebFOCUS, so the report writers don't have to do the joins manually everytime. For example, for Enrollment Student, we're joining a 5 or 6 related views. We get the FOC336 error when opening the cluster join master file for Enrollment Student. I know the limit is @32K bytes for length of fields but for our master file using the CHECK FILE we're getting @92K bytes for the total length of fields way beyond the limit.

What are other's doing with SungardHE's ODS project and WebFOCUS? I would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Nate

When creating a MFD for a data source outside of WebFOCUS, you do not have to include all fields in the MFD. You could try eliminating fields from your MFD which you do not use so as to get below the 32K limit.

Thanks!

Thanks, but that's not what we want.

It doesn't any sense...I'm just trying to open Report Painter with this cluster join. I'm not putting all those fields in the report...doing that I would expect I would then expect this type of error. Will have to look at a new reporting tool if there's no work around.

Mr. Conn,

That's why we create views, especially for the large volume of student data and columns in Banner ODS / Oracle.

If you are not going to grab all the columns, have the DBA generate a custom VIEW, OR, you can CREATE VIEW with WebFOCUS, OR, create a FOCUS DB with the selected columns; then, the user's access 1 datasource.

Good Luck with another tool...

Nate,

Open a Tech Support case with Information Builders. They should be able to tell you what the issue is. It may be just the number of fields in the cluster join MFD which is causing the issue but I cannot tell from the information you supplied.

You made reference to the total length of fields going over the limit but I belive this only applies to what is used in a TABLE request. If you are not even getting that far then there is probably a different issue. However, since I do not use Dev Studio I do not know exactly what the limits are of the GUI.

Check with IBI to see what they say.

Sorry I could not be of more asistance.

Thanks!

Mickey

If you're having to join 5 or 6 views from the ODS I'd go back to SungardHE and ask them to create this view in the ODS as a fix/enhancement. The purpose of the ODS is so you don't have to do the joins yourself.
