hi friends ,

I have a very basic question. Here is the situation .

Our reports are driven by SQLs which fetch the data. Some of the columns in SQL have "NULL" values.

Now , when the column containing null values is used as a filter in the form of a listbox.

There are blank values in the listbox which indicate that this column contains null values.

What i want is to replace this blank value with a more user friendly message like "None" ..

I tried doing this using Define statement,

LVL_1_BUS_CAPBL_N/A50 = IF LVL_1_BUS_CAPBL_N IS MISSING THEN 'NONE' ELSE LVL_1_BUS_CAPBL_N;

But this was not getting reflected in the listbox. "None" was not showing in the listbox.
SET NULL = ON I think works for a different hold format.

Please advice.

Arvind,

Use a COMPUTE in stead.
I got this to work in the following example:
SET ALL=ON
SET NODATA=NODATA

JOIN EMP_ID IN EMPLOYEE TO ALL EMP_ID IN EDUCFILE AS JA

TABLE FILE EMPLOYEE
PRINT COURSE_NAME
      COMPUTE EMPCN/A40 MISSING OFF = IF COURSE_NAME EQ '' THEN 'NOTHING' ELSE COURSE_NAME;
BY EID
END

The field that is missing gets 'NODATA', but the corresponding COMPUTE show 'NOTHING'.

Hope this helps ...

hi gamp,

Thanks a ton for your reply ,

But mate , that column is used as a filter in the form of a listbox , and this word "NONE" for null value is not getting reflected in the listbox.

Do i have to tweak the code further so that it gets reflected in the listbox??

thank you very much

Maybe it helps if you post the code that you use to populate the listbox.
Now we're just guessing around a bit, and that is not speeding things up.

How are you populating the list box? from a data source or from a procedure. If a data source then that will not work. If a procedure then it should be somethign like this
DEFINE FILE ...
FILTER/A50 = IF LVL_1_BUS_CAPBL_N IS MISSING THEN 'NONE' ELSE LVL_1_BUS_CAPBL_N;
END
TABLE FILE ...
SUM
FILTER
BY FILTER
ON TABLE PCHOLD FORMAT XML
END

PS When you run your procedure then you will have to look at all values to see of the user selected NONE and if so change it to create a missing where statement.
