Hello.

I am migrating a SQL report to Webfocus Developer Studio, that had 30 independent SQL statements in it. It is supposed to be a Dashboard of sorts - giving our office a nice overview of our proccesses. So, I have created around 30 reports in one procedure file.

My problem is how to aggregate the 30 output data hold files so that I can put it all in one report.

No table has the same fields, so I can't use a join. At least not the normal way. I have tried to used a common defined field in each report, however webfocus says it can't parse the (first) master hold file when I try to create a report off of the join, even though there is nothing wrong with the file itself. In fact, I used it in the join just fine, and it never had a parsing error. I've tried matching, however it doesn't work correctly either. When I create a report based on matching, each field should have only one output line. But matching will combined the data from 2 fiels, into one field, which I can't use.

So basically, my question is this: Is there a better way to aggregate 30 different reports into one report so that I can use report painter to create a nice dashboard report?

I would post my code, but it's alot. Over 500 lines.

Brian

If your final goal for the output is PDF, do a compound report. If its HTML, you can hold each of the outputs as format HTMTABLE and place the results onto an HTML web page.
Depending on your version of WebFOCUS, you can also do compound Excel documents.
There is quite a bit of documentation on these methods. Do a search on "Compound Reports".

brian, here's an idea
say your reports are called MYTAB1.HTM, MYTAB2.HTM, ...MYTAB30.HTM
Construct a page (either a .asp shell page if it will be launched from a browser, or a fex with -HTMLFORM shell)
Say its a fex,
TABLE FILE CAR
.do stuff...
ON TABLE HOLD AS MYTAB1 FORMAT HTMTABLE
END
.*..lather, rinse and repeat 30 times.
-RUN
-HTMLFORM BEGIN
<TABLE>
<TR><TD>!IBI.FIL.MYTAB1;
</TD>
<TD COLSPAN=2>!IBI.FIL.MYTAB2;
</TD></TR>
<TR><TD>!IBI.FIL.MYTAB3;
</TD>
<TD>!IBI.FIL.MYTAB4;
</TD>
<TD>!IBI.FIL.MYTAB5;
</TD></TR>
...etcetera
</TABLE>

-HTMLFORM END
...................
variations on the theme..if your MYTABs are made in other fexes and parked on a server, then be sure to filedef them before you run the fex containing the -HTMLFORM commands. You can layout your MYTABs however your imagination dictates.
...................
another variation, use a .asp page as your container if you launch it from your browser, and organize these same pre-made MYTAB's using this command syntax, (making sure of course that the page reference is reachable on your site. Use more or full path if you need to.)
 <!-- #include file="mytab1.htm" -->

ok, Susannah, that's awesome!

Just what the doctor ordered. And thanks for putting all of that code...that really helped me understand what you were talking about.
