Just wondering if anyone can offer any insight as to what I am missing.

I have an excel report with a URL to a help file that describes the report and the fields on the report. The .htm file has anchor tags/bookmarks. The url looks likes this:

http://servername/approot/htm_...s/yi027.htm#AllHomes

For me this works perfectly. When I click on the URL, I am positioned at the 'AllHomes' anchor/bookmark.

For my users, the '#' is being replaced with '%20 - %20'. When I hover over the URL in Excel worksheet it shows "http://servername/approot/htm_files/yi027.htm - AllHomes". If I try to edit the URL, it shows the '#'. If I use the Excel hyperlink function to create the URL, it shows the '#' when I hover over the URL. No matter what I do, it works for me but not my users.

Does anyone have any insight as to what is happening? Why would it work for me and not my users? All of the Excel settings are the same so I am thinking it is IE that is changing the # (we are using IE 10).

Also, in the URL of the page not found error, if they manually replace the '%20 - %20' with '#', it works.

Just in case anyone is interested I finally found the solution. Do one of the following.

1. Change the default browser to another browser then back to IE. Our problem is the only browser available to us is IE (unless you get special permission).

2. The other solution requires a registry change. Changing the default browser to another browser then back to IE creates these registry entries:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\http\UserChoice] "Progid"="IE.HTTP"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\https]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Associations\UrlAssociations\https\UserChoice] "Progid"="IE.HTTPS"
