I have a text file on windows that I need to use as a data source. I am trying to use the iWay adapter to generate the synonym but I get the following error.

FOC1332) CREATE SYNONYM : BASEAPP/BUSPROCESS ERROR / (CBFD09) Open error

Can any one please post their MFD for a windows flat file, so that I can use that as a base line. We are running 5.2.5

Thanks.

is your text file fixed format, csv, pipe-delimited, variable number of fields? or what? lots of possibilities. its really easy. here's one for a fixed format file:
a line with a bunch of $ in the first few positions is a comment line.
FILE=D8232CNV ,SUFFIX=FIX
SEGNAME=D8232CNV,SEGTYPE=S01
FIELDNAME =DOOROLD ,E01 ,A05 ,A05 ,$
FIELDNAME =BLANK ,E02 ,A1 ,A01 ,$
FIELDNAME =DOORNEW ,E03 ,A5 ,A05 ,$
$$$ converts marshall field door nums old- new d8232 to m8232 1/16/05 slj
Note that the FILE name D8232CNV is totally arbitrary, as is the Segment Name
the segtype S01 is important; it tells focus that the file is ordered by the first 1 field, (which doesn't need to be true, necessarily). so just make yours type S01
ok?

There is no way to generate metadata automaticly from a true flat file because there is no under line engine that contains the format information of the file. you have to manually create it with suffix=FIX. If you have a cobol copy statement and a MainFrame IBI has a tool call FDT File Description Translator that can help in generating a master file that way.

Hope this helps
