I am attempting to use the WebFOCUS display options to display a negative sign after the percent sign for negative values on a computed field. According to WebFOCUS documentation, any of the display options can be used in any order. However, when I try to use the option '%-', I get an error. I can use the options in the reverse order ('-%') successfully.

My question is - could this be a bug with the version of WF I am on? Is anyone else able to use '%-'?

I thought I would run this past this forum before opening a case with IBI.

Here is some sample code that I believe should work, according to documentation.

TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
  COMPUTE PERCENT_OF_COST/P7.2%- = (DEALER_COST - RETAIL_COST) / DEALER_COST * 100;
END

Thanks!

I'm not sure if it is supposed to work, doesn't for me either on my version, but you can play with it and get what you want.

DEFINE FILE CAR
PERCENT_OF_COST/P7.2% = ((DEALER_COST - RETAIL_COST) / DEALER_COST * 100)* (-1) ;
ALPHA_PCT/A5=FTOA(PERCENT_OF_COST, '(D7.2)',ALPHA_PCT);
NEWPERCENT/A6= EDIT(ALPHA_PCT,'$$999') | '%-' ;

END
TABLE FILE CAR
PRINT
CAR
NEWPERCENT
END

How about using braces if it is financial data? The negative sign can easily be lost in a large report whereas the braces stand out.

PERCENT_OF_COST/D7.2%B

Also I generally use double precision for percentages, especially if I expect them to tally to sub-totals.

Indeed it does not work if you put the minus sign last. Strange thing is that this is valid for % sign and currency symbols only. Other option do not care if the minus sign is first, last or in the middle. PERCENT_OF_COST/P7.2L-S is just as valid as PERCENT_OF_COST/P7.2-LS or PERCENT_OF_COST/P7.2LS-. But with % and ! options, the minus has to come first ...

Thanks, everyone, for the responses! There are many ways to do what I want to do, but I wanted to use the delivered display options if possible.

It half works with PCT_OF_COST/P7.2-%, but doesn't look good.

Might be worth it to put a case in with IBI to say that %- format should be valid
