[close] How *NOT* to output the length of AnV field to a hold file?

When I print out an ALPHA hold file with AnV fields, the field always includes the length, like

00003ABC

When I -READ it to a variable I had to remove the length part.

Is there any SET parameter that can disable the output of the length?

There is no such a parameter because, if the field has a variable length, the file must necessarily indicate how many characters to read before reaching the next field in the row.

You can however use -READFILE instead which takes care of all of that for you nicely. You are not even "forced" to use ALPHA output anymore

-READFILE is one of my favourite features in 7.7.x.

You can, and I do this often, -READ FileName .&LenVar.6. and use &LenVar in your next -READ &Var1.&LenVar.EVAL. statement.
