Does anyone know how to make "on break-name recompute (or subtotal) as 'total xxx' " not to break into a new line?

The subtotal line is always broken into two different lines. The alpha description 'total xxx' on one line and the numerics on the second.

I have read somewhere that WFC estimates that they won't fit in one line and hence splits in two. But they CAN fit in one (just like the details).

Thanks in advance.

If you will do a search on 'Subtotal two lines' you will get many discussions on the subject.

Adding a blank for sort break fixes the split; but, it adds a new blank column in the report.

Yes it does add an unwanted extra column ... and you have to either live with that or use a subfoot with embedded ST.fieldname. That works a long as you can guarantee the report will not be wider than the page, and you do not have repeating fields in an ACROSS.

I'm reaching way back in my memory for this one, but it seems like I remember that happening when the column that has the 'total xxx' is not wide enough... making that column a bit wider then makes the line single again.

"Not wide enough" shouldn't be a 21st century problem, but in WebFOCUS it is.

This may be occurring because you have one or more BY zzz NOPRINT before the SUBTOTAL. There are quite a few threads about this problem with many suggestions, but I haven't yet found the definitive one.

thanks all for the responses. The long and short of it is that I cannot use st.fieldname because I am using recompute to recalcuate percentages. And the unwanted extra column from adding the blank break field is just not acceptable in an excel formt. So. Frowner It is just amazing that webfocus has not fixed this all too common problem.
