I am trying to insert records in a table (SQL database) - by holding data, then using the MODIFY command.

ON TABLE HOLD AS TESTTEMP
END
MODIFY FILE TESTTABLE1
FIXFORM FROM TESTTEMP
MATCH FIELD1 FIELD2 FIELD3 FIELD4
ON MATCH REJECT
ON NOMATCH INCLUDE
DATA ON TESTTEMP
END

I get the following error message: (FOC437) THE FORMAT USED WITH FIXFORM IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH THE DATA FORMAT
FIELD2 /CDATE

Any suggestions?

Suzanne,

What is the target DBMS? MS SQL 2000, Oracle, DB2 ....?

One thing you might have a problem with is HOLDing the date as a date format value. WebFOCUS holds this as an internal format that would not easily be recognised (binary I think as a count of days from a base date of 31/12 1900). So your code is probably failing because of that.

Try using SAVE instead of HOLD, which will provide you with an ALPHA formatted output file without an MFD (that you don't need anyway) or if you insist on using HOLD then use ON TABLE HOLD AS TESTTEMP FORMAT ALPHA.

Can you post the TESTTABLE1 master and perhaps issue a ?FF TESTTEMP before your MODIFY; this will help us compare the formats.

Thanks,
Paul.

I could not get the SAVE to work, but when I tried it in my real code I realized that my temp table name was too long. I shortened the name and held with FORMAT ALPHA. It worked perfectly.

Thanks so much for your help and the quick responses!
