We just upgraded to WF 7.6.1. When I try to view a master file in the "Synonym Editor", I get the following error:

Dialog Box title:
Error - /WF/qtdenvwfd02/EDASERVE
Error Message:
Failed to connect to the server. Either the release of the server is incompatible with the release of DMC, or a critical error occurred.

I can't find anything to help figure out this error.

Looks like they have integrated Data Management Console into Dev Studio.

We use 7.1.3 and I sometimes use DMC instead of DS because of its superior facilities.

I get that message frequently, but, if you play around with it, it will work intermittently.

I had always assumed that the DMC we are using came with 7.1.1 and because our wfclient/wfserver were 7.1.3 that was the problem.

Possibly the upgrade to 7.6.1 didn't include the DMC and you need to reinstall separately.
Our experience suggests this.

Hi Joan, I had a similar (but not exact) problem and I got around it by making necessary changes to the master file using the text editor rather than the synonym editor. Also, make sure you have installed the 2 hotfixes released with 7.6.1

Good luck,

Regan

We ran into this when the version of the client being used (WF Client/DevStudio/iWay Client) was not the same version as the server. Have all software versions been upgraded or are there stil come components on older versions?

Regards,

Darin

Thanks for all your ideas.

We have just upgraded the server to 7.6.1 and have installed the hotfixes. I installed 7.6.1 on my desktop, then went back and re-installed it again, and I'm still getting the error.

I do use text editor on my Master Files. But I am testing functionality to see if we can move forward with this version. It seems like we should have all functionality working.

I'm also getting strange behavior when trying to log into our production server (not yet upgraded - awaiting good results of testing on the "test" server). When I try to open a master file on the 7.1.4 server (production) from 7.6.1 Dev Studio, I am prompted to log in. Then, oddly enough, the Synonym Editor displays and works just fine. No error.

DMC did install on my desktop with 7.6.1 Dev Studio, Gen Number 191, Release R7207618 (UNICODE) - but maybe it is part of I-way. Seems like some reading I did suggested that I-way is not included in Dev Studio 7.6.1 without a separate license. Maybe that's the issue. Maybe if I uninstall DMC?
