I really blew it!!!!

Admin Console > Custom Settings

This returns a blank Dialogue Manager variable:

WFUSERx=&IBIC_user
WFUSERx (pass)

This messes up the Admin Console and I get "Unable to establish connection to WebFOCUS Administration Console. Contact your WebFOCUS Administrator":

&WFUSERy=&IBIC_user
WFUSERy = &WFUSERy (pass)

Funny (sad?) thing is, in our production environment, I can use Admin Console to update the Custom Settings which are stored in site.wfs. But I can't, of course, edit the file itself.

So I can make a mess, but I can't clean it up!

Francis,
What exactly do you mean by
quote:
But I can't, of course, edit the file itself.

Are you not able to change the site.wfs file because of some restriction or are you not willing to change it in the file itself because it's not the proper way to do it?
I'm afraid that if you have you locked out at the front door the only way in is through the back door Frowner . I agree that this is not a proper way . But as far as I know, it's the only way.

I certainly have no problems using the back door.

In this case the OS is AIX and I don't have update access to the file.

It's ridiculous that one errant & in site.wfs entered via a GUI window has rendered WebFOCUS inoperable.

The tech support here isn't very responsive - I can't seem to find someone to help me out!

Francis,

So how's your Tech Support different to any other one? Wink Although I must say that the IB Tech Support are great of course Razzer and no, my comments have nothing to do with the fact that I once worked on the London desk Wink

Back to normal.

The reason I had the problem is that I did not realize that the syntax for setting variables in site.wfs appears to be different for servlet and cgi.

This works on servlet:

<SET> IBIC_user = &IBIC_user (pass)

It doesn't work on cgi.

This works on cgi:

<SET> IBIC_user (pass)

This works on servlet:

WFUSER=&IBIC_user
<SET> WFUSER = &WFUSER (pass)

It doesn't work on cgi - I get a blank variable &WFUSER.

This causes havoc on CGI only:

&WFUSER=&IBIC_user
<SET> WFUSER = &WFUSER (pass)

That Mad & Mad - I knew it shouldn't be there, but I tried anyway.

Francis,

I dont see that your using
<set>
. I only have the servlet, but the following works fine for me.

WFUSER=&IBIC_user
<set>WFUSER(pass)

...OK maybe you do have it, just not in code tags for the forum....

That works for servlet, it does not appear to work for cgi - I get a blank variable.

Sorry, I didn't notice that my code did not display correctly - I've updated my posting.

Thanks for your comment, Gizmo.
